“Closer Visions,” Ed Stone
Ed Stone’s interest in photography began in 1970, when he enrolled in a beginning black-and-white photography class at Merced College. Using a Canon 35mm camera, he quickly moved from photographing landscapes to focusing on smaller subjects or parts of larger ones. He was also influenced by the work of Wynn Bullock, Man Ray, and the close-up work of Edward Weston. He worked as a prepress technician and graphic designer for 30 years, where he became involved in growing field of digital imaging. “I look for images in common objects, decaying structures, and the natural world. I seek beauty in the unsightly, meaning in the mundane, and attempt to obtain order within chaos.”— Ed Stone
