Pacific Grove Art Center

Art CenterHistory

The Pacific Grove Art Center is housed in one of the historic buildings of Pacific Grove. Proctor and Quintel, employed by T.A. Work, entrepreneur and developer, constructed the building in 1904-1905 with retail stores on the ground floor and assembly halls above. The Masonic Lodge rented the second floor until 1950 when they built their present, local lodge. In 1969, twelve local professional and business people borrowed $30,000 from the City of Pacific Grove and the Art Center was born.

The goals of these founders were the three E’s in the arts: Educate, Exhibit, and Encourage community involvement.
